Should you have Pet Insurance
Is pet insurance an expense or a saviour? As with all insurances it’s both! We have a lot of clients here at The Berwick Village Vet who have taken out insurance and are disappointed with cover.
Find the right pet insurance for you
Make sure you take out a cover that is right for you. Here’s a couple of things to be mindful of when picking the right pet insurance for you.
- It is interesting to note that medical claims far outweigh trauma/emergency claims. So make sure you take this into account when taking out a policy.
- It is also best to keep in mind your pet’s breed when finding the right policy for you to make sure you are covered for the most likely conditions that would occur in your pet.
- Is your policy renewed annually or is it lifelong? We have found a lot of policies are renewed annually. One client made a claim for itchy skin. At renewal the company excluded “all skin conditions”. A year on, the dog developed melanoma in the skin. In the fine print it states ” a skin lump is deemed a skin condition” and so was not covered. Melanoma can spread to the internal organs and be difficult and expensive to treat.
Make sure to check your policy!
