Pooches and their owners head out to play

Dog On Lead

TAILS and tongues will be wagging at Buchanan Park on March 30, when Berwick dog owners and their pooches hit the green for a mix and mingle. Dr Jeremy Jones from the Berwick Village Vet said the event would provide a “safe and sociable” environment for dogs and their owners.

“We’ve found that Berwick is a community orientated place and we’re trying to foster the community spirit among dog owners,” Dr Jones said. “The last time we held this event, around the end of 2012, it was really safe and all the dogs got along really well. “It’s an on-lead event. “Only dog lovers turn up and, you know, you all instantly have a bond.”

Berwick resident Casey May is returning with her four-legged friend for a second time. “It gives you a great opportunity to meet other people that you normally wouldn’t on your walks,” Ms May said. “You often don’t get a chance to talk to other dog owners, so it’s nice. It really is a lovely morning to meet-and-greet.” Dr Jones said all dogs would be required to stay on a leash at all times but pooper scoopers and dog water would be provided.
